Exion v2.25 Readme Exion Mod Version 2.25 for Unreal Tournament 2003 - 14 February 2004 © 2004 George Varga, Hungary (Budapest), GeorgeVarga@msn.com http://www.niara.hu/exion.html REQUIREMENTS: - Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2003 Build 2225 (or newer) patch. Patch is available from: http://www.ut2003.com ISTALLATION: Download the Exion2 MOD files from the Exion website in case you have not done it yet. The files can be dowloaded in ZIP and UT2MOD formats, as well. IMPORTANT! You can adjust the performance (framerate), the number of initial "Karma" objects and the number of "Karma" fragments with Settings/Details/Physics Detail switch. Under 30 frame/sec the Exion MOD reduce the number of "Karma" fragments and reduce the gameplay effects. WARNING! Exion2 MOD is not fully compatible with Exion1 MOD maps and Exion1 type destroyable maps. UT2MOD file installation: - Double click on the downloaded EXION2.20.UT2MOD file. If it does not work, you need to run the installation process manually using the „setup install Exion2.20.ut2mod” command in the UT2003\SYSTEM directory. - Follow the setup instructions in the UT2003 Installer and exit the install dialogue once the files have finished copying. ZIP file installation: Extract and copy the content of the MAPS folder (.ut2 files) into UT2003\Maps folder, folder of STATICMESHES (.usx files) into UT2003\StaticMeshes folder, the content of TEXTURE folder (.utx files) into UT2003\Textures folder, the content of SYSTEM folder (.u, .int files) into UT2003\System folder, the content of SOUNDS folder (.uax files) into UT2003\Sounds folder, the content of MUSIC folder (.ogg files) into UT2003\Sounds folder and the content of HELP folder (.txt files) into UT2003\Help folder. PLAYING SINGLE PLAYER GAME: 1. After installation, start Unreal Tournament 2003. 2. Choose „Instant Action” from the Main Menu. 3. Choose „Exion” in the game type drop-down list. 4. A list of Exion maps will appear in the map list. Choose the EXN-Level1-Labyrinth map. 5. Select a Bot Skill Level and the number of additional bots you want to play in the match. 6. Choose Game Rules, Mutators and the Maps you want to play if applicable. 7. Click the „Play” button to join the action, or the „Spectate” button to watch and learn from the bots. PLAYING ONLINE: 1. Start Unreal Tournament 2003. 2. Choose "Play Online/LAN" from the Main Menu. 3. Click the "LAN" tab for LAN game or click the "Custom" tab for internet game. 4. If you select "Custom" tab, Select the "Exion" from the "Game Type" drop-down list to find Exion servers. 5. Select the server and click the "Join" or "Spectate" buttons depending on whether you want to join or just watch the action. START GAME SERVER FOR THE LAN/INTERNET GAME: 1. Start Unreal Tournament 2003. 2. Choose „Host multiplayer game” from the Main Menu. 3. Under „Game & map” tab control, select the „Exion” game type, and the EXN-Level1-Labyrinth map. 4. Under the tab buttons „Game Rules”, „Mutators” and „Server” give the desired settings. 5. Click on the „Play” button to start the server. RECOMMENDED GAME SETTINGS: Naturally, the higher the stage of the setting possibilities which influence the quality of the game are set, the more you enjoy the game. But since the gamespace is quite big for the computers, and the objects moved by the „Karma” physics engine are also very demanding of source of power, some possibilities in the „Settings” menu should not be set maximally. In the followings, we recommend a setting which preserve the pleasures of playing very much, but gives an optimal performance: Video: 800x600, 32 bit Color, Gamma: 0.8, Brightness: 0.8, Contrast: 0.7 Details: - Texture, World: Normal - Physics: High - Character: Highest - Dinamic Lightning, Projectors, Decals, Foliage: ON - Decal Stay: Normal Audio: - Music Volume: 1.00, Announcer Volume: 4, Effects Volume: 1.00 Player: - Weapon: Right, Default FOV: 85, Small Weapons: NO The other setting possibilities should be done according to the potential of the computer. MAPS: Presently the Exion2 MOD has three maps: - EXN-Level1-Labyrinth - EXN-Level2-Gangways - EXN-Level3-FrontLine The map applies a lot of objects moved by the „Karma” physics engine, that’s why the network is loaded very much. TWO MODIFIED WEAPONS CAN BE FOUND IN THE GAME: „Exion type Assault Rifle” and „Exion type Assault Rifle Plus” weapons can be chosen by button „2” and „3”. Both weapons are similar in form to the weapon „Assault Rifle”. The weapon on the „2” weapon storage place is the „Exion type Assault Rifle” which is equipped with silencer, too. It differs from the one which is in the original UT2003 in a way that the direction of the fired bullets can be seen in the primary firing mode. If we are the ones that are being fired, then it can be seen from where we are being fired. At this type of weapon, (if the „Projectors” and the „Decals” options within the „Settings/Details” menu are switched on, and the the „Decal Stay” setting is adjusted to „Normal” or „High” mode) the traces of the bullets can also be seen on many elements of the map. At this type of weapon the secondary firing mode is exchanged for the adjustable telescope, with which you can approach the target. The next weapon on the third weapon storage place is the „Exion type Assault Rifle Plus”. It hasn’t got silencer that’s why it is louder a bit, but it has 140% more firepower than the „Exion type Assault Rifle”. Adjustable telescope can be found on this weapon, as well. For „Exion type Assault Rifle” and „Exion type Assault Rifle Plus” you can use bullets which used with „Minigun” weapon. As on the map there are bullits which are mainly used with these weapons, we recommend using primarily the „Exion type Assault Rifle Plus” during the game. GAME DESCRIPTION: The Exion2 MOD is a Team DeathMatch which is completed with some teamflags and a small-sized fusion reactor at each team, which are installed at different points of the map. Our own team’s reactor must be defended from the enemy while enemy reactors must be destroyed. For destroying the enemy reactors you can get many points. According to the game rules, the winner is the team that sooner achieves 90 points. Further points can be collected, apart from destroying the reactors, by shooting the members of the enemy team. Under the „Game Rules” setting you can change, for example, the number of the points needed to win the game. (Frag Limit) Here you can determine the time limit, as well (for example 15 minutes) and in this case the winner is that gets the 90 points as soon as possible within 15 minutes, or if it is not succeeded, that team is the winner which collects more points within the time limit. If you adjust the „Time Limit” 0, you can freely play without limiting the time. Under the „Game Rules” setting you can also give the number of the possibilities of returning to the game if a player is shot, or he is destroyed by the wall. In this case the winner team is (if neither of the teams has got the needed points, or the time limit is not up yet) that stays in game for the last one. If you adjust the „Max Lives” 0, then the shot players can always return during the game. You can direct your team mates as usual in UT2003. The team members can be commanded to defend your own objects or a position, attacking, escorting themselves or searching and attacking the enemy under „Speech Menu” (usually pushing key [V]) in the „Order” menupoint. THE EXION MOD: What do we consider important in the game type EXION? 1. Defend your own team’s elements and destroy the ones of the enemy. 2. Two modified weapons, equipped with telescopes, got into the game: „Exion type Assault Rifle” and the „Exion type Assault Rifle Plus”. 3. Destroy the smaller bridges and ramps in order to change the path of the players. 4. Many walls are destroyable in the map, so you can shorten your ways several times. 5. Destroy the enemy by making the wall fall on them. To do this, you have to shoot the wall near the enemy. 6. While the EXION program is going on, the hardware is working hard, because of using the „Karma” physics engine, as well. SETTINGS FOR ADVANCED USERS: In the UnrealTournament 2003 SYSTEM folder, you can edit the UT2003.INI file in order to customize elements.
